Charles Robert ""Bob"" Baxter, 91, Rockford, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Hillsdale Community Health Center, Hillsdale, MI. Born April 22, 1916 in St. Louis, MO. son of Charles Robert, Sr. and Marie Baxter.. Married Charlotte Sindelar in St. Louis on June 14, 1941. Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Bob was a very good athlete, played basketball for the University of Missouri and was also a semi-pro baseball player. Retired from sales with Muller-Pinehurst Dairy and was previously employed as General Manager for Bordens Dairy. He was formerly a member of the Lions Club and Jaycees. Bob had a wonderful zest for life. He was a great jokester and always had a positive outlook. As his children were growing up he was active with Little League Baseball, was always an avid golfer and enjoyed his appaloosa horses. Bob loved his family and was especially proud of his grandson. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; son, Donald Charles (Gretchen) Baxter; daughter, Linda J. Thomas; grandson, Dr. Daniel Charles (Beth) Baxter; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Nicholas and Abigail Baxter and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, sister, Florence Baxter Deibel and great-granddaughter, Olivia Baxter. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Dan Herman, Old Stone United Church of Christ, officiating. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
