CHARLES LEE SLAUGHTER, 78 of Rockford, IL, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in Chesterfield, MO. Born November 28, 1930 in LaPlata, MO to Zora Pearl (Buck) and Will Oren Slaughter. Married Mary Catherine Early on September 2, 1950. Charles served in the US Army stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. He was employed as a machinist in Rockford for George D. Roper Company and then Rockwell International. Charles enjoyed his interest and participation as a Softball Umpire and bartender at Bowl-Mor Lanes & LLLs Society. He was a lifelong member of St Edwards Catholic Parish where he sent all four children to school, and was involved with the St. Edwards Athletic Association. Charles is survived by his wife, Mary; brother, Dale (Freda) Slaughter of Madison, SD; children, Steve (Anne) Slaughter of Scottsdale, AZ; Ken (Diane) Slaughter of St. Charles, MO, Joe (Beth) Slaughter of Lake Zurich, IL and Patti Lintern of Rockford, IL. Grandchildren; Michael, Caitlin, and Melissa Slaughter, Bridgette, Brittany, and Bethany Slaughter, Eric and Bryan Slaughter, and Lanah Danielewicz; and many loving relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Oren and Doris Slaughter, and daughter Beth Anne Slaughter. The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Augustine, Tina Gust, Yvonne Taylor, Helene Allen, and all the wonderful staff at Surrey Place. The visitation will be Sunday, May 17th from 6-8pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. in Rockford, IL. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Monday May 18th at 10am in St Edward Catholic Church, Rockford, IL. with Rev. Michael G.. Black officiating. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name (in lieu of flowers) to St. Luke's Surrey Place, 14701 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63017 or to the American Diabetes Association.
