Charles H. Laws, 75, Rockford, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in his home. Born November 5, 1936 in Chicago, son of Floyd H. and Ina Rabbitt Laws. Graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago and Nothwestern University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Veteran of the US Army. Following his discharge from the Army, he became a member of the Army Corps of Engineers where he was instrumental in the building of the Greers Ferry Dam in Arkansas. He was employed by the Ridell Company for many years where he was head of Research and Development . While there, he designed the modern day football helmet which is being used today. He had also been employed by the Belvidere Company prior to his retirement. Charles was active in the Belvidere First United Methodist Church where he had been Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School. He had also served as Sunday School Superintendent at his previous church in Chicago.Survivors include his daughter, Cammi (Steve) Wolfe; son, Cory (Karen) Laws; grandchildren, Teaguen Tosi and Brody Wolfe; his former wife of 20 years, Judi (Dave) Rogalla and friend, Valerie Ciembronowicz. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Winifred Laws. No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Belvidere First United Methodist Church, 610 Bonus Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008. The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road.
