Charles H. Laws, 75, Rockford, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in his home.nbsp; Born November 5, 1936 in Chicago, son of Floyd H. and Ina Rabbitt Laws.nbsp; Graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago and Nothwestern University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Veteran of the US Army.nbsp; Following his discharge from the Army, he becamenbsp; a member of the Army Corps of Engineers where he was instrumental in the building of the Greers Ferry Dam in Arkansas.nbsp; He was employed by the Ridell Company for many years where he was head of Research and Development .nbsp; While there, he designed the modern day football helmet which is being used today.nbsp; He had also been employed by the Belvidere Company prior to his retirement.nbsp; Charles was active in the Belvidere First United Methodist Church where he had been Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School.nbsp; He had also served as Sunday School Superintendent at his previous church in Chicago.
Survivors include his daughter, Cammi (Steve) Wolfe; son, Cory (Karen) Laws; grandchildren, Teaguen Tosi and Brody Wolfe; his former wife of 20 years, Judi (Dave) Rogalla and friend, Valerie Ciembronowicz.nbsp; Predeceased by his parents and sister, Winifred Laws.nbsp;
No services will be held.nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Belvidere First United Methodist Church, 610 Bonus Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008.nbsp; The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road.nbsp;
