Charles (Chuck) R. Vola, 96, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
Chuck was born in St. Louis, MO on April 7, 1922, son of John J. and Effie R. (Swenson) Vola. He married Rosemary H. (Hurley) Vola at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford on October 29, 1955. Chuck graduated from New Milford High School. He was a proud Army Veteran of World War II, having served as a Sergeant in the 63rd (Blood and Fire) Division. Chuck was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church for over 60 years where he also served as an usher. He was a Lighting Consultant and top Salesperson with Forest City Electric for over 35 years. Chuck had a passion for his career and often shared fond memories of it. He was a lifelong fan of both the Chicago Bears and Cubs, especially proud to see his favorite baseball team win the World Series. Chuck loved to travel and took his family on memorable vacations. He was an avid fisherman and adored dogs and cats. Chuck proudly lived on his own until two months before he passed. He was a good, decent, and kind man. He will be missed dearly.
Chuck is survived by his two children, Mary Malvesti of Oak Park, IL and Ann (Raj) Patel of Rockford; grandchildren, Michael Malvesti, Shiralee, Amolee, and Ashay Patel; special grand dogs and cats, Lola, Griffin, Billee, and Nori; numerous beloved nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Lillian Vola. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Rosemary; four brothers, John, Hank, Donald, and Tom Vola and one sister, Carol Goebel. The family would like to give special thanks to caregiver Vicki Gomashie and Heartland Hospice for their kindness and compassion during their time with Chuck.
Visitation will be take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2019 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. His final resting place will be in Harlem Cemetery, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations will be distributed to Chuck’s favorite charities in his memory.
