Charles P. Cicero, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018. He was born in Sambuca di Sicilia on July 4, 1925; the son of Peter and Maria (Parlapiano) Cicero. Charles graduated from Rockford West High School class of 1943. Charles married Eilena L. Caronna on September 23, 1950 in Rockford.
He was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII onboard the USS Wedderman DD-684. He was a partner along with his brothers, Joseph and Sam in the grocery business at Cicero's Foods and the hardware business at Handyman's Hardware for over 49 years. He was a member of the Navy Memorial.
Charles enjoyed gardening, building things with his hands, making repairs, traveling, watching sports, trips to Menards and spending time with his children (dogs), Baron, Chestar, Corey and Daisy.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Eilena L. Cicero; brother, Sam (Sally) Cicero; brother-in-law, Joseph Caronna; nephews, Robert (MaryAnn), John (Debbie), Peter (Monica) and Stephen; nieces, Gina and Jennifer (Dana); god-daughter, Lucia (Mark); numerous great-nieces and nephews; special friends, Gary and Nilie.
Predeceased by parents, Peter and Maria; in-laws, Joseph and Stefana Caronna; his brother, Joseph (Grace) Cicero and sister-in-law, Patricia Caronna.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St, Rockford. Franciscan Friars will officiate. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Online condolences may be submitted at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
