Cathy Lane Musselman

Cathy Lane Musselman, 65, Durand, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Saturday, August 5, 2023. She was born June 22, 1958, in Alexandria, VA, the daughter of Howard Brooke and Mildred “Maxine” (Deane) Hipsley. Cathy was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, the class of 1975. She married Ron Musselman in Alexandria, VA on March 17, 1979. Cathy retired from Sundstrand Corporation, now Collins Aerospace, where she worked as a secretary. Cathy was an active member of the Morman Church for many years. She was a member of the Polish Falcon’s Club for over 20 years where Ron was also a member and an avid supporter of the Rockford Ravens Rugby Club. She was always active with her daughters growing up, she especially loved coaching them and their softball teams. She played softball for many years in the Rockford area, most often at Forest Hills or the Ace of Diamonds baseball park.

Survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ron; her daughters, Maggie (former husband, Chris) Hutson, Monica (Kraig Balentyne) Musselman, Michelle (former husband, Justin) Schwagel, and Morgan (Allen) DeGarmo. Cathy named all 4 of her daughters with names beginning with “M’. She lovingly called them her “M and M’s”. Cathy is also survived by her grandchildren, Lorilee and Wyatt Hutson, Noah Musselman, Karlen Balentyne, Caylea and Madison Schwagel, Tracie, Gracie and Howard DeGarmo; her sister, Terry (David) Watson; her sister-in-law, Rita Monger; her mother-in-law, Reberta McCullough; her nephews, Jim Muraski, Christopher and Jonathan Hipsley; her nieces, Susan Hammonds, Kathleen Keys and Jennifer Campos; many cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by her parents, her brother, David Hipsley and her father-in-law, Leonard Musselman.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at the funeral home and again from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Saturday.
