Cathy J. Olds

Cathy J. (Mitchell) Olds, 65, of Rockford, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born August 6, 1949, the daughter of Harold and Barbara (Nelson) Mitchell. Graduated from Sycamore High School and went on to receive her Nursing Degree from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing in 1970. Cathy worked as a Registered Nurse for Rockford Memorial Hospital and Rocvale Children’s Home prior to that. When not working she loved to spend every minute she could with her beloved grandchildren and took time to work in the yard and on her flower gardens. She loved to watch her grandkids sporting events and decorating her home. She loved art (especially her grandkids) and all types of music. She was a kind and caring mother and grandmother and a proud nurse who worked tirelessly to care for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled individuals. She will be missed dearly by all. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to her special friend, Rosalie Feary and many other nursing friends from E2 and to the OSF St. Anthony Medical Center 4W nursing staff whom provided exceptional care for her, P.A Peterson 3rd floor staff, Memory Care staff, special caregiver Ella Horton and Dr. William Edwards and Dr. Malgorzata Bach.
Survivors include her children, Stephanie (Tim) Honkamp, Michael (Jo-Dee) Olds and Jessica (Morgan) Teske all of Rockford; grandchildren, Josh, Mitchell, Katherine, Matthew, Amelia and Sofi; brother, Steve (Carol) Mitchell of Sycamore and nephews; Stephen, Simon and Zachary. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with from 5 – 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. Express online condolences at: www.fitzgeraldfh.com
