Catherine O. Campion

Catherine "Kay" O. Campion, 92, Rockford, died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010 in her home with her family by her side. Born March 22, 1918 in Blanchardville, WI, daughter of Charles and Louise C. Regez Deininger. Graduated from Monticello High School in 1935, attended the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and graduated from Northern Illinois University. Married ONeill F. Campion in Monroe, WI on June 4, 1941. He died January 20, 1991. She was a teacher in the Harlem School District for over 20 years, retiring in 1979. Member of St. James Catholic Church. She was also a member of Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority and several bridge clubs. KAY enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and playing cards, but she was happiest whenever her family could all be together. Summer vacations at Lake Ripley and Star Lake and holiday gatherings were especially memorable. Survivors include her children, Thomas E. (Joan) Campion, Aurora, William (Beverly) Campion, Rockton, James (Barbara) Campion, Woodstock, Peggy (Thomas) Miller, Rockford and Peter (Rosemary) Campion, Rockford; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Also predeceased by her granddaughter, Sharon; her twin sister, Josephine, who died in childhood; sister, Florence Hanold and brother, Earl Deininger. A Memorial Mass of Celebration will be held at noon on Thursday, September 9, 2010 in St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Dean Russell officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Brooklyn, WI. Memorial visitation from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. and from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF St. Anthony Hospice or to the specified Building Fund at St. James Church.
