Catherine Katie M. (Cassioppi) Choppie-Gates, 87 Loving Mother, Grandmother, Nana and Nana Katie Rockford Catherine Katie M. (Cassioppi) Choppie-Gates, 87, died at 8:25 a.m. at home Friday, September 12, 2008. Catherine was born October 25, 1920 to John and Antonia (Biavona) Cassioppi. Catherine married William Willie J. Choppie on Sept. 21, 1941 who died on Sept. 5, 1972. On Feb. 19, 1978 she married Donald Gates who also predeceased her on April 9, 1993. Catherine and Willie owned the Sugar Bowl Restaurant on South Main Street and in 1966 they purchased the Angle Inn restaurant on North Rockton Ave. She retired in September of 2002. Member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She Attended Central High School. Her hobbies include cooking at the restaurants watching Lucy and Raymond and talking on the phone. She enjoyed dinners on Sundays with the family, and seeing her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Her customers at the Sugar Bowl and the Angle Inn were her life and friends.Survivors include; daughter, Louise (Karl) Frost, sons, Carmin (Janet) Choppie, John (Diane) Choppie. Grandchildren Karla (Geoff) Davis, Kevin (Lisa) Frost, Kristopher Frost, Paula (Brian) Smith, Dianna (Doug) Hathorn, Steven (Fiance Lindsay Durchik) Choppie, Jeffrey Choppie. Great-grandchildren; Claire and Katie Davis, Maddie and Libbie Frost, Maria and Sarah Smith. Seven stepchildren, Ralph (Trudy) Gates, Rita (Lyle) Morris, Thomas D. (Rita) Gates, Maryann (Tom) Nimmo, Collette (Norm) Buchert, Joseph (Betty) Gates, Monica (Allen) Mathers, step niece, Valerie (Dave) Graham. 20 Step-Grandchildren and numerous step-greatgrandchildren. Sisters Tanie Fiorenza, Betty Cassioppi, and Toni Cassioppi. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Catherine is predeceased by her parents, step-mother, both spouses, sister Mary Galluzzo, Martha Paravala, Corrine Contarino. And brothers Frank Red Cassioppi and Leonard Cassioppi. A special thank you to her loving caregiver Jodi Williams and her children who kept her happy at home. Also thanks to her sisters who brought treats to her very often. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday September 16, 2008 in St. Bernadette Church with Father Dan E. Peters officiating with burial in St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Family and Friends may express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfuneralhome.com.
