Catherine "Kay" Downs

Catherine “Kay” E. Downs, 85, of Rockford died Friday, February 17, 2017 at Neighbors Nursing Home. Born August 27, 1931 in Schyler County, IL the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Little) Eifert. Graduated from Rushville High School and married her loving husband, Marvin R. Downs on September 14, 1949. Kay was the co-owner of Rockford Silk Screen and worked in the office. A devoted member of Victory Baptist Church and enjoyed time she spent with family and friends. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Neighbors Nursing Home for their compassionate care over the years. survivors include her husband, Marvin of Byron; children, John (Vicki) Downs of Rockford, Jean (Duane) Keding of Roscoe, Cindy (Terrance) Light of Cherry Valley and Tim Downs of Rockford; Son In-law Terry Schasker, 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild; sisters, Shirley (Gene) Kennedy of Elmwood and Theresa (Richard) Pomering of Stillman Valley; brother, Raymond (Joanne) Eifert of Rushville and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cathy Schasker and grandson, Mark Light.
Funeral service Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 7028 Rydberg Rd, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials in her name to:Victory Baptist Church and Neighbors Nursing Home. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford chapel is assisting the family.
