Cataliana “Cathy” G. Lopez, 81, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024.
She was born on February 23, 1943 in Mburucuya, Corrientes Argentina and later moved to the United States where she met her husband Ramon (Mony). She worked at DJ Stewart until 1985 and then worked in the alterations department at Marshall Field’s until her retirement in 2007. In her spare time, Cathy enjoyed traveling with Mony, often visiting family in Los Angeles and Mexico. Their travels took them as far as Jerusalem. In the past year, as a newly-minted jetsetter, she was traveling nearly monthly.
Cathy was dedicated to her family and took care of her nieces and nephew as if they were her own. Along with being dedicated to her family, she was equally dedicated to her career as a seamstress and was known to have many influential clients.
Cathy is survived by her brother Jose (Marisa) Bernachea, niece Mariah (Joe) Schneider, great-nephew Joseph “Jr.”, niece Mercedes (Brent Bergin) Bernachea, nephew Mark (Kristen Wicke) Bernachea, cousin Rosa (Jim) Smythe and their children, Logan and Sasha, niece Mabel Reynosa, great-nephew Jesus, great-niece Mariluz and numerous other family and friends across the country and in South America.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 14, 2024, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford with Reverend William Wentink officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
