Rockford

Carol A. Eggleston, 86, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away on May 8, 2024, surrounded by her family at Cherry Vale Place. She was born on July 8, 1937, in Kankakee, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth and Luella (Gaus) Baker. She graduated from Momence High School, class of 1955 and attended Elmhurst College for a short time. She married Arthur "Edward" Eggleston on June 9, 1956. Together they lived in Sycamore, IL, from 1965 – 1979 before moving to Rockford. She loved celebrating her favorite holiday, 4th of July and could always be found wearing red, white, and blue. She enjoyed collecting dolls and was a member of the Doll Club. Carol loved visiting flea markets which started her collection of ornaments, hallmark, stuffed animals, and many other things. She was also a member of British Boots and Bonnets.  She was well known for her love of her 2003 Mini Cooper car and was one of the first people in Rockford to own one. Later in life, Carol and Edward enjoyed traveling, visiting places like Hawaii, Alaska, England, Paris, Germany, and Italy. Carol was a longtime member of Second Congregational Church and later on Second/First Congregational Church. She attended a bible study group with her close friends.

Carol is survived by those who loved her most, children, Scott (Deana) Eggleston and Sylvia (Aaron) Weaver; grandchildren, Evan (Jasmin) Eggleston, Jamie Eggleston, Michelle Markley, Sarah Eggleston, Miles Eggleston, and Ben (Maria) Eggleston; great grandchildren, Keira, Winston, Roxanne, Remington, Nate, Thomas, and Austin; sister, Bonnie (Bob) Sanders; brother, James (Vicki) Baker; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Ken and Luella; husband, Edward; son, Matthew; and two grandsons, Kenneth and Philip Markley. 
 The family would like to give a special thank you to OSF Hospice and the special caregivers at Cherry Vale Place/Trust Well Living.

A Memorial Service will be on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue Rockford, IL 61103. A visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. Please share memories and condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
