Carol A. Ewald

Carol Ann (Conner) Ewald, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 13, 2022, at Wesley Willows Nursing Home in Rockford, IL. Carol was born November 2, 1947, to Esther and Louie Conner in Glidden, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Glidden-Ralston Community School in 1965. Carol attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Master’s degree in Guidance Counseling. There she met and married Bruce David Ewald and taught in the Ankeny Public Schools while Bruce finished his Pharmacology Degree. Carol and Bruce moved to Rockford, IL and spent 50 years together where Carol taught in the Rockford Public Schools for many years before retiring.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; her parents; and brothers-in-law, Greg Ewald of Rockford and Charlie Ruckstaetter of Arlington Heights. Carol was a loving sister to her brother Jerry Conner of Belmond, Iowa; sisters, Judy (Harry) Reever of Glidden, Iowa, Kristi Conner Ruckstaetter of Arlington Heights, IL and sister-in-law, Dianna Ewald of Rockford, IL; nephews, matthew Aron of Sevierville, TN and Charles Ebel of Omaha, NE. She will be missed and lovingly remembered as a talented and creative teacher who loved giving the gift of music to many Rockford students and as a very special aunt by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Willows and Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Carol’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northern Illinois Hospice or Wesley Willows.
