Carmella “Mimi” Armato, 98, of Rockford passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Riverbluff Nursing Center. Born February 3, 1919, in Rockford, the daughter of Thomas and Antonia (Migliore) Crapisi. She married Alex Armato in 1943 in Rockford. Carmella was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Carmella loved to cook and have family over for dinner. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Armato Family would like to give a special thank you to OSF Hospice, especially Jamie, Karen and Lauren as well as the staff at Riverbluff.
Survived by her children, Sam (Liz) Armato and Margo (Tom) Murphy; grandchildren, Patrick (Christina) Murphy, Chris (Laura) Murphy and Dawn (Ken) Bersch; great-grandchildren, Brenna, Eryn and Alex Murphy, Christopher and Ava Murphy and Danny and Lesli Bersch; sister, Rose DiTomassi and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Alex, siblings, Virginia Moscato, Alex Crapisi and Frank Crapisi.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with a Rosary Service to be recited at 4:00 p.m. Visitation at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
