Carla "Penny" Stienecker

Carla E. “Penny” Stienecker, 76, of Rockford, died Friday, July 8, 2016 in her home. Born April 3, 1940 in Rockford the daughter of Carl and Evelyn (Greer) Mera. Carla spent a majority of her time raising her 3 beautiful children and was sure to enjoy and cherish every moment she could with her grandchildren. She was an active mom, volunteering for Boy scouts and Girl Scouts, school events, Midway Village and was very involved in the League of Women Voters. Whether it be community planning or overseeing and executing the State Planning Dinner’s, you could always count on her. Penny was a kind and caring mother and grandmother, her smile and gentle heart will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Kristy (Larry) Hansen of Rockford, Skip Stienecker of Belvidere and Erin (Patrick) Tulley of Rockford; grandchildren, Jordan and Nicholas Hall, Trenten and Grant Hansen, Zachary and Paxton Tulley; brother, Carl Mera, sister, Melody Layng and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her identical twin sister, Darla Jones and sister, Molly Young.
Funeral Mass, Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. Second St. Rockford. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winnebago.
