In loving memory of Carla Jean Connor, 71, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and professional woman, who died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Carla, born on December 22, 1952, in Rockford, Illinois, was the daughter of Carlo J. and Anita P. Navarra Rossi. She graduated from St. Anthony Grade School in 1966, Boylan Central Catholic High School in 1970 and Rock Valley College.
Carla's journey was one of unwavering service and commitment. She embarked on a career path that exemplified her passion for justice and education. With 12 years spent at a criminal attorney's office in Chicago followed by over two decades as a paraprofessional in the Rockford School District, Carla left an indelible mark on all those whose lives she touched.
Beyond her illustrious career, Carla will be remembered for the countless memories she created with her husband, son, grandsons, sisters, nieces and nephews. Whether it was gathering them for dinner, sharing in their joys and triumphs, or spending countless hours with her beloved grandsons, Carla's love knew no bounds.
Carla's dedication extended beyond her professional and familial duties. She was an active member of several committees for St. Rita Catholic Church, including being on the Pastoral Council and was Catholic Woman of the Year for St. Rita in 2000. She taught at St. Rita's Vacation Bible School and fundraised tirelessly for children in need; these acts showcased her profound commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. She was very involved with Cherry Valley and White Swan Schools where, among many other activities, she was treasurer of the P.T.O.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Carla understood her as a beacon of selflessness and generosity. Advocating tirelessly for children, she embodied the values of hard work, humility, and devotion to family above all else. Despite her many accomplishments and accolades, Carla remained humble and always preferred to work behind the scenes rather than seek the spotlight. May her legacy continue to inspire acts of kindness and selflessness for generations to come.
She is survived by those who loved her most, her husband of 48 years, Michael; her son Ryan (Heather) Connor; her grandsons Zachary and Tyler; her father Carlo Rossi; siblings Karen (Bruce Nelson) Rossi, Kathi (Jim) Daley, Colette (Aaron) Luebke, Robert (Kathryn) Rossi, numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and a community that benefited greatly from her kind spirit. She is predeceased by her mother, Anita; grandparents Ambrose and Josephine Navarra, Vincenza Rossi and several aunts and uncles; nephew William Aubuchon; niece Claire Lynn DeBoor and Baby A.
