Carl Joseph Vollmer, Jr., 74, Rockford, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Provena Cor Mariae surrounded by his loving family.nbsp; He was born June 5, 1936, in Bloomer, Wisconsin; the son ofnbsp; Carl J. and Betty (Pfluger) Vollmer, Sr.nbsp; Carl married Yvonne Smith in Rockford on August 15, 1959.nbsp; He was a Navy veteran serving from1955 until 1959. He worked at Johnson Drillhead and later at Rockford Automation.nbsp; Most recently Carl owned Vollmer-Jennings Construction Company until his retirement in 2002.nbsp; He is a member of St. James Catholic Church and was a graduate of St. Thomas Catholic High School.nbsp;nbsp; Carl was a member of the Homebuilders Association and loved to build bird houses for craft fairs.nbsp; He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.

Survived by his wife of 51 years, Yvonne; daughters, Colleen (Steve) Girard of Rockford, Diane Bucki of Chicago, Linda (Tom) Jennings of Davis, and Denise (Felix Vajgert) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Christina and Benjamin Girard, Kimberly and Michael Bucki, Jessica and Ryan Jennings; brothers and sisters, Violet (Maury) DeVlieger, Alfred (Fran) Vollmer, Jim (Mollie) Vollmer, Mary Krull, Joanne (Jerry) Greenlee, and John (Kim) Vollmer; many nieces and nephews.nbsp; Predeceased by his parents.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2 nd St. Rockford, Il 61107, with Father Dean Russell officiating.nbsp; Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.nbsp; Visitation from 5:00pm - 8:00pm, on Monday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford, IL 61103 with a Rosary recited at 7:45pm.nbsp; Visitation will also be held from 10:00am - 10:45am on Tuesday at the church.nbsp; Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.nbsp;
