Candice M. Anderson, 61Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Teacher Candice M. Anderson, 61, Roscoe, died at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 in the peacefulness of her home, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born April 17, 1949 in Poynette, WI, daughter of Kenneth and Ruby Garey Kencke. Married Richard E."Rik" Anderson in Cherry Valley on July 3, 1971. Graduated from Guilford High School in 1967. Received her Bachelors degree from Western Illinois University and her Masters degree from Rockford College. She was a teacher in the Harlem School District for 35 years where she taught English, Reading and Language Arts. Following her retirement from Harlem in 2005, she taught for 3 years at Keith School and had also taught Alternative Night School for the Regional Office of Education for 2 years. She was an adjunct professor at Rockford College for several years and was co-facilitator for "Quantum Learning" both on the local and national levels. She was a proud Golden Apple Recipient in 2005. Candy was a very courageous woman in many aspects. She loved teaching and was very dedicated to her profession. Some of her favorite times were spent at Lake Mills with her family and friends. She loved her family and especially enjoyed her beloved grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Rik; children, Rich (Melissa Hines) Anderson, Ryan (Sara) Anderson and Katy Anderson; grandchildren, Ricky, Alivia, Holden and one thats expected in October; sisters, Karen Kencke and Kay (Ron) Barton, several cousins and her mother-in-law, Lois M. Anderson. Predeceased by her parents and father-in-law, Dick A. Anderson.Funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2010 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev. Brenda Byrne, chaplain of Northern Illinois Hospice & Grief Center, officiating. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Friday. Cremation will follow the service.
