Calvin E. ""Cal"" West, 73, Rockford, died Friday, June 6, 2008, in SwedishAmerican Hospital following an extended illness. He was born June 21, 1934, in Rockford, the son of Robert and Alma (Fehler) West. Married Marilyn K. Peacock in St. Bridgets Catholic Church in Loves Park on July 19, 1958. Cal graduated from East High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. While employed at Barber-Coleman Co., he played softball in the Industrial League and later played softball for many years with the teams of Arves and Carlson League. Cal later managed a slow-pitch softball team. He owned three automobile service stations through the years until he began operating a wrecker service until his retirement in 2004. Cal enjoyed deer hunting and spending time fishing with his family at their cottage in Wisconsin. Cal also enjoyed skeet shooting, bowling, wood working and was a avid Cubs fan during the last few years. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Gander and staff; Dr. Harner and Paula; Dr. Kulberg and Dr. Jaworicz and staff as well as the many departments at SwedishAmerican Hospital that were so caring toward Cal over the last four years. He was a caring, loving, hard working father and husband who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Kristine (Richard) Mimier, Mark R.West and Karin Hachmeister, all of Rockford; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Anna Mimier and Kaitlin and Carley West; sister, Barbara (A.J.) Voiles, Belvidere; brother, Robert (Bernadine) West, Lake Mills, WI, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Wednesday, June 11 at the funeral home and from 12-1pm Thursday before the service.
