C. Vincent Oakley, 92 C. Vincent Vince Oakley, 92, Rockford, died Saturday, April 25, 2009, in Rockford. Born July 4, 1916, in Durand, the son of Ambrose and Susan (Owens) Oakley. Vince was a 1934 graduate of Rockford Central High School where he won the state golf championship in 1934. Vince married Doris I .Briggs in Rockford on May 20, 1939. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2004. Vince was employed by the Winnebago County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years, retiring in 1974. He then worked for Farm Services. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and later St. Bernadette Catholic Church and most recently St. James Catholic Church. Vince was an avid golfer who won many tournaments. He shot a hole-in-one while in Arizona in 1991. He enjoyed bowling and traveling. Vince was devoted to his family and friends and loved spending winters in Arizona with Doris. Survived by son, Richard Dick (Vicky) Oakley and daughter, Nancy (Frank V.) Rondone, both of Rockford; grandchildren, Christ (Tim) Harvey, Trina (Terry) Severson, Troy (Cathy) Oakley, Diana and Debi Rondone; great grandchildren, Michael and Amber Wheeler, Emma and Amani Soverson, and Kayla and Kimberly Thomas; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded by his wife, Doris, parents and two sisters, Marie Joley and Doris Brain. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2nd St., Rockford, IL 61107. Burial in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Durand.
