Byron Dwight Wechter

April 29, 1933 — July 12, 2023

Byron Dwight Wechter, 90, of Rockford, passed away on July 12, 2023. He was born on April 29, 1933, in Baraboo, Wisconsin, the son of Richard and Helen (Ruud) Wechter. Byron served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse with his bachelor’s degree in 1958. He married Mary Alice Martens on September 10, 1960, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He was a sales manager for Phillips Petroleum before retiring in 1994 and moving to St. Germain, Wisconsin.


Byron was involved in many community activities like the Boosters, the St. Germain Chamber of Commerce, the Wheaton Rotary Club for 18 years where he served as a past President and had perfect attendance, the Wisconsin St. Germain Lions Club, the St. Germain Wildlife club, and the golf course committee where he helped with the course expansion and volunteered as a ranger. He enjoyed stamp collecting, playing bridge, golfing, and fishing. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, and all Wisconsin Badgers sports. He loved his Springer Spaniel dogs, Sandy, Madison, and Addison.


He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Alice; children, Linda (Howard) Simons, David (Morgan) Wechter, and Jennifer (Greg) Galanos; grandchildren, Kyle (Angela) Simons, Kaitlyn Simons, Nicholas Galanos, Dylan (fiancé Colleen) Galanos, and Tyler Galanos; great granddaughter, Evalyn Simons; and 2 brothers, Paul and Richard Wechter. He is predeceased by his parents.


The family would like to give a special thank you to Mercy Hospice and Wesley Willows.


Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mercy Health Hospice.
