Bruce G. Spickler, 84, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Anne's Center. Born May 26, 1928 in Winnebago; the son of Joseph G. and Mable (Stanley) Spickler. He graduated from West High in 1946. Bruce served his country in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. He married Carole Wurtz on July 11, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard, Illinois. Bruce was a very proud firefighter for the Rockford Fire Department for over 28 years, retiring in 1985 as a driver engineer. He also worked part time delivering medicine for various area pharmacies to nursing homes and home bound families. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Bruce and his father built a cabin in Wisconsin and he loved spending time there. He had a passion for fishing, antiquing and refinishing woodwork using his work bench. Bruce enjoyed being outdoors putsing around in the yard. The Spickler Family would like to give a special thank you to the Rockford Fire Department and Paramedics for all their help over the past few years. Bruce truly enjoyed spending time with his family and is lovingly survived by his wife, Carole; daughters, Barbara Kosinski and Karen (Tim Williams) Spickler; grandchildren, Kelli and Kasie Kosinski, Stephanie and Alec Spickler; he was Papa to great-grandchildren, Jaysie Collier and Taydem Puckett; sister, Barbara Milligan, brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Martha Spickler, and sister-in-law Karloyn Spickler; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Gordon Wurtz; extended family, Holly Enfield, Erin and Dante Jenkins, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, son, Michael, brother, Roger, sister, Pauline in infancy, sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Bill Lundquist and Phyllis and Ralph Schneider and brother-in-law, Roger Milligan. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford, Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road with Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
