Bonita “Bonnie” Ann Hooper, 73, Machesney Park, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 1, 1947, in Daggett, MI, the daughter of Furman and Olive (Laurin) Pierce. Bonnie married Thomas Hooper in Loves Park on December 9, 1967.
Survived by her husband of 52 years, Tom; her daughter, Michele (Pete) Mehlig of Machesney Park; her sons, Pete (Laurie) Hooper of Rockford, Andrew (Rona Swiggum) Hooper of Machesney Park, and Christopher Hooper of Rockford; her grandchildren, Bridgette and Noah Mehlig, Allyson and Jacob Hooper; brother, John Pierce; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Heather Crouse, Aaron and Stephanie Tice; and special grandchildren, Lexie, Addy, and Sammy Tice. Predeceased by her parents and her grandson, Caleb Mehlig.
Bonnie was beautiful on the outside and inside. She had a heart filled with love for everyone she knew and a welcoming spirit for all. Her greatest joys were her love for her four children and many grandchildren. She was blessed by the Lord with intelligence and the ability to accomplish any task that she set her mind to do. Bonnie was great at cooking, sewing, crafts and decorating. She opened her heart and home to all family and friends, and friends of friends with all the delicious dinners she prepared. The more people that joined her in our many celebrations the happier she was. Bonnie was a precious gift to us, and she is now in the arms of the Lord praising and glorifying Him eternally.
We want to express our gratitude to the OSF Hospice team and especially to Elizabeth, who was always able to coax a smile from Bonnie even in her darkest times. Many thanks to her caregivers from Comfort Keepers which include Audra, Kim and Kathy.
