Bev Odling

Bev Odling, 88, passed away at home on May 5, 2020. Bev was born in Texas but had lived in Rockford since she was a child. Throughout her lifetime she enjoyed boating, water skiing, playing cards, dancing, traveling, spending time in Florida, and golfing at Forest Hills Country Club. We were fortunate to have yearly family vacations in Florida and many summer trips to Lake Lauderdale in Wisconsin. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and getting to know her great-grandchildren. Bev was married to Roland Odling for 42 years until his passing on May 5, 1993. She was very fortunate and blessed to find joy and happiness again with her long-time companion, Ed Matus, whom we love like family. They enjoyed many years of traveling together and enjoying their time at the family pool with family and friends. Mom especially enjoyed watching the grandchildren, including Ed’s great-grandchildren, spend time in the pool. Having her home and pool utilized and enjoyed by so many made Mom very happy. There were many special parties over the years. We are eternally grateful for the loving support given to Mom over the years by Ed Matus and his family. We would like to give a very special thank you to Mom’s nurse, Dana, from Mercy Health Hospice, as well as to the caregivers from Comfort Keepers. Also, thanks to the Johnsons and the Bensons for being such good neighbors.
Bev is survived by her son, Dave (Lory) Odling, her daughters, Peg (Joe) Tulley, and Cathie (Lynn) Freese; her grandchildren, Mike (Elizabeth) Odling, Lauren (Eddie) Latimer, Austin Odling, David (Liz Latorre) Heidel, Jeff (Cassie) Heidel, and step-grandchildren Joe Tulley and Erin Jurevicius, Brandi Schnurr and Chrissy Tempin, and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Lt. Commander Rick Heidel in September 2019.
