Betty Loraine Spencer, 88, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2013, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 29, 1925, in Galesburg, the daughter of Durwood and Anna Marie (Duval) Thurman. Betty married Floyd Spencer, Jr. on October 24, 1947, in Knoxville, IL. He passed away July 21, 2009, in Rockford. She worked assembling airplanes for McDonald-Douglas Aircraft during WWII and then for Rockford Products until she and Floyd married and started their family. Betty and Floyd shared an interest in Genealogy and was a member of the Spencer and Duval Family Associations as well as the Knox and Winnebago Genealogical Societies. Survived by her son, David (Betsy) Spencer of Culpeper, Virginia; her daughter, Carol (Mike) Rogers of Brimfield; her grandchildren, Benjamin and Jack Spencer and Thomas, Theresa, Todd, and Tori Rogers; her great-granddaughter, Laney Rogers; her nieces and nephews, Don (Joni), Brian (Becky) and Susan Anderson, Thomas (Cathy) Thurman, and Darla (Kevin) Kuhner; several great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Alice Thurman. Predeceased by her loving husband, Floyd; her parents; her brother, Darwin Thurman; and her niece, Pat Murphy and her husband, Mike. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Alice Coaty, whose friendship and care to Betty during the last 4 years made her life immeasurably better and allowed Betty to maintain her independence as much as possible. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm, Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Dean Parker officiating.
