Bernice Wallmichrath

Bernice (Gritz) Wallmichrath died on Monday, February 13, 2017 in Presence St. Anne’s Nursing Home, Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Carl who died in September 2000. They were married in Rockford in 1946. Bernice worked as an administrative assistant at the National Lock Company in Rockford for over 40 years. “Never an unkind word was ever heard spoken by her,” remarked a friend who has known Bernice for over 30 years. It wasn’t her eloquence that made you love her; it was her essence. Bernice’s life of 94 years was cut short; she had hoped to live to 100 years. Her pleasant, peaceful presence and accepting spirit will be missed by all of those who were blessed to spend time with her.
She is survived by her brother, John Gritz of North Carolina and 16 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Stelle Walters, Jean Skrinskus and Evelyn Miller.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 North Rockton Avenue. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am until service time. Express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
