Barbara V. May, 85, Rockford, died at 8:07 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2008 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born August 27, 1922 in Parke County, Indiana, daughter of Oscar J. and Mabel I. (Lee) Dark. Graduated from Kingman, IN. High School. Rockford resident since 1984 coming here from Danville. Barbara was always a hard worker and spent many years as a factory worker. She had a great love for reading, flowers and plants and spent time working in floral shops. Member of the Kingman Evangelical United Brethren Church since she was 13 years old. Life long member of the Royal Neighbors of America and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. Survivors include her daughter, Pam May, Rockford; nieces, Debbie Dark, Diana (Dan) Holt and Carla Newnum and Penney Gayler; great nieces and nephews, Candace, Clarissa, Reuben, Brittany, Jeremy, Carson, Joey, Luke, Katie and several cousins. Also survived by her special friends, Jan Remillard, Ernie Johnson, Matt Markley, Oliver Newton, Em and Andrew James and her friend and caregiver, Rose Sandoval and her family. Predeceased by her son, Ronald G. May, parents, grandmother, Myrtle Koster, brother, Frank (GeorgeAnna) Dark; sister, Dorothy Dark; nephew, Jay C. Dark and niece, Eva Moore. A special thank you is extended to Julie and the nursing staff on D-3 and Pat McCarthy at Rockford Memorial Hospital for the loving care they gave to Barbara. Funeral service at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rev. Anita Stuart-Steva, Middle Creek Presbyterian Church officiating. Visitation from 4:00 p.m. until time of the service on Tuesday. Burial in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery, Kingman, IN. at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to plant a tree in Barbaras name.
