Barbara G. McMarran Johnson, 85, died Friday, January 16, 2009 at home. Born October 30, 1923 in Rockford, the daughter of Michael and Gertrude (Billingham) McMarran. She married Howard W. Johnson on January 31, 1948 at the Catherdral of St. Peter. He predeceased her in 1991. Barbara was in the first graduating class of West High School and went on to graduate from the St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1945. She is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Barbara served on the organizing committee that established what is now known as Midway Village at the Rockford Museum Center. She is survived by her children: Jody (Richard) Goff of Rockford, Jeffrey Johnson of Rockton and Julee (John) Cranfill Jr. of St. Charles, IL.; grandchildren: Matthew (Tanya) Johnson, Erikka Johnson, Shawn Johnson, Jamie Cranfill and John Cranfill III; great-grandchildren: Taylor Johnson and Jordyn Johnson. She is predeceased by her parents, son, Gary and sister, Elizabeth Schroeder. Funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Msgr. Thomas E. Bales officiating. Private family interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation on Tuesday, January 20 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and from 10-11:00a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials to Muscular Dystrophy Association of America, 5411 E. State St, Rockford 61108 and Midway Village at Rockford Museum Center, 6799 Guilford Rd, Rockford 61107.
