Barbara A. Dittman, 84, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.
Barbara was born in Barnesville, Ohio on October 26, 1938, daughter of Lester and Florence (Baldwin) Dittman. She graduated from Seymour High School, Class of 1956, and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron, Ohio in 1977. Barbara worked in retail and then was a dedicated teacher for over 20 years. After retiring, she was a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art. She was a longtime member of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where she was active in bible study groups. Barbara was a proud Red Hat Queen of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening and loved making memories traveling around the world. Most of all, Barbara cherished spending time with her family and loved ones. She will be dearly missed.
Surviving relatives include her son, Michael (Kathleen) Hembree and daughter, Debra (George) Gajdos; grandchildren, Cindy Roley, Jason and Joshua Hembree; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Ethan) Miller, Brianne Roley, Lauren Roley and Luna Hembree; brother, David (Jane) Dittman and sister, Kathleen (Bernard) Schroer. Barbara is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Joyce and Bill.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 6, 2023, located at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 805 Crest Drive, Gardendale, Alabama 35071. A reception will be held following the memorial service.
Final resting place will be in Greenview Memorial Park of Florence, AL.
