Arthur W. Swanson

Arthur Wendell Swanson, 94, of Rockford, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Friday, January 12, 2018. Born, November 27, 1923 in Alta, IA, he was the proud son of August and Signe (Staderska) Swanson.
Arthur attended high school through the tenth grade until he went to work to help his family after his father fell ill and was unable to work. He later enlisted in the military and faithfully served our country in the Army Air Force as a veteran of WWII.
Arthur would later marry the love of his life, Carol Kopp, in Rockford, on November 25, 1950, his wife of 62 years. He retired from Rockford Products after 20 years, attended Brooke Road Methodist Church for several years, and was a long time active member of the local VFW.
Arthur is fondly remembered as selfless man who enjoyed taking care of and spending time with his family.
He will be truly missed.
Survivors include, his children, David (Gayle) Swanson, Bruce Swanson, and Jeannie (Siegfried) Veil; 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 1 sister, Margie Miller.
Predeceased by, his wife, parents, brother, Ken, and sister, Ruth.
Funeral service 1 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford. Visitation 12 p.m. until the time of service. Burial in Arlington Cemetery.
