Arthur D. Shaw

Arthur D. Shaw, 86, Rockford, died peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2023 in his home with family by his side. Born January 28, 1937 in Rochelle, son of Herbert and Gertrude Lathrop Shaw. Graduated from Rochelle High School and Rock Valley College. Veteran of the United States Air Force, stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. Married Marcia Johnson in Batavia on March 12, 1966. He was employed by Sundstrand as an associate engineer for many years. Art was an active member and volunteer at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He and Marcia had also participated in several mission trips with the church through the years. He was a community volunteer who helped many people in various ways. He taught money management through Visiting Nurses Association, helped with taxes through AARP and was a long time volunteer at the Discovery Center. Art was also a loyal Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia; son, Andrew Shaw, daughter, Amy (Ken) Sinner and son, Ben Shaw; grandchildren, Blake, Ryan and Casey Sinner; brother Loren (Joyce) Shaw; sister, Delores Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; sister, Lucille Schmidt and brothers, Larry (Herb) Shaw and Melvin Shaw.

The family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice, especially Michelle, for the loving care given to Art.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., with a time of visitation from noon until time of the service. Memorials may be made to Discovery Center Museum, Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Northern Illinois Hospice. The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel.
