Arnold "Arnie" G. Swenson

Arnold G. “Arnie” Swenson, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.

Arnie was born March 31, 1934, in Rockford, IL, son of John and Mildred Swenson. He married Sandra D, Carlson on September 10, 1961, in Zion Lutheran Church. Arnie graduated from East High School, Class of 1952. He then attended Rock Valley and Rockford Colleges and was a graduate of School of Advanced Traffic. Arnie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany for 2 years, Army National Guard for 2 years attaining the rank of Sgt. And 2 years in the Army reserve, honorably discharged October of 1962. He was employed at Nelson Knitting Co. for 25 years in many management positions including president. Arnie was current president of Action Apparel, Inc. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was past financial secretary and treasurer. Arnie was also past president of the following organizations: Institute of Management Accountants, Rockford Noon Lions Club, World Trade Council of Northern Illinois and Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity. He was past treasurer of the charity foundation of the Lion’s Club and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from Lions International. Arnie was also a member of Swedish Historical Society.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Sandy; daughter, Julie (Dennis) Schuller and grandson, Dalen Schuller of Richfield, MN; sister, Marian Swenson, sister-in-law, Marilyn Carlson of Rockford and many cousins. Arnie is predeceased by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. located at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Cremation rites have been accorded. Final resting place will be in Scandinavian Cemetery.
