Arlene P. Harms, 97, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Alpine Fireside. Born August 5, 1920, in Esmond, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Sadie (Carson) Gustafson. Arlene graduated from Fairdale High School and moved to Rockford to attend beauty school. She was a hairdresser in her home for many years. Later in life, she worked for Mueller Studios as a school photographer. Arlene married Walter Harms on November 8, 1941. She loved to entertain family in her home. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and she loved to play the slots. Walter and Arlene liked to dance, travel, taking trips to Europe.
Survived by her daughters, Marlena Holzinger and Vicki (Richard) Ppool; granddaughters, Kari Holzinger, Ahna (Jason) Nicol and Bria (Jason) Thompson; great-grandchildren, Elyanna and Paxton Nicol, Phillip and Harper Thompson and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings. Her infectious laugh, positive attitude and generous spirit will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Alpine Fireside and Northern Illinois Hospice for the loving care and support.
