Antonina Domenica Costa

Antonina Domenica Costa, 89, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Antonina was born in Ucria, Sicily on December 29, 1931, daughter of Carmelo and Carmela (Anza) Barone. She married Vincenzo Costa on October 5, 1950. After moving to the United States, Antonina worked at Nelson Knitting for 27 years. She was devoted to her faith as a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Antonina enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading, watching game shows and was an excellent cook. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren. Antonina will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her loving husband of 70 years, Vincenzo Costa; dear children, Rosalia (Brian) Tempin, Carmelina (Jim) Truninger, Sebastiano Costa, Silvana (Scott) Hilger and Saro (Robin) Costa; grandchildren, Robert Tempin, Michael (Kristin) Giamalva, Sebastian Costa Jr., Daniel Tempin, Greg (Andrea) Giamalva, Jason (Ashley) Tempin, Vince Costa, Antonina Costa (Sean Croke), Domenica Hilger, Cassandra Costa, Charles Hilger (Autumn Gray) and Adriana Costa; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ian, Breanne, Wesley, Lacy, Jack, Luke, Carmelo, Hunter, Tucker, Theodore, Lincoln and Charlotte; sister, Rosina Orifici; brothers, Aldo (Beth) Barone and Frank (Marie) Barone; sister-in-law, Amelia Barone; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Antonina is predeceased by her parents; brother, Guiseppe Barone and brother in law, Calogero Orifici.

A walk-through visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Rockford, IL 61102. Those attending must wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Private entombment will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Antonina's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Vincent's Orphanage of Chicago.
