Anthony V. Scarpitta

October 24, 1927 — July 13, 2018

Anthony (Tony) Victor Scarpitta, born October 24, 1927 in Rockford, Illinois to Sicilian-immigrant parents, Angelo and Rose, as one of seven children, died July 13, 2018 in Rockford of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel G. (Daguanno) Scarpitta, in 2002, as well as by his six siblings. During the Great Depression, Anthony worked several jobs to help support himself and his immediate family while attending and graduating from Rockford West High School. He was later drafted into the Korean War. During his service, he became victim to a nerve illness, spent several months recuperating at Walter Reed Hospital and was granted an honorable discharge. After the war, Anthony and Rachel were married September 5, 1953. They had three children, Rose, Angelo and Joseph, who survive him today. He has numerous nieces and nephews who also survive him. His active philanthropy and generosity enabled him to be a good husband, father and uncle to all members of his family. He worked for Rockford Products and Modern Suspension; was a parishioner of St. Bernadette’s Church and an active participant at the YMCA where he was a dedicated volunteer in the service for others. He will be remembered for his contagious smile and as a person who was never too busy to help, support and enlighten the lives of his friends, relatives and neighbors. The family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at the Grand Victorian of Rockford and Heartland Hospice.
