Anthony S. Montalbano, 64 Rockford- Anthony (Tony) Montalbano, 64, lifelong resident of Rockford, passed away in his home on January 14th, 2009. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Born October 21, 1944 to Samuel and Nancy Montalbano (Montalbano). Graduated from West High School in 1963. He married JoMarie Provenzano on April 19th, 1969. Tony enjoyed a career based in route sales, first with Domino Distributing, and then with his privately owned business. He was a member of St. Rita Church, and Fourth Degree member of the General Assembly 190, charter member of Council 7624 Knights of Columbus and a member of the John Paul Degree Team. He served in the Army and proudly displayed the American Flag at his home. He was an organ transplant recipient and supported efforts to raise awareness of organ donation. Tony sustained many friendships throughout his personal and professional life. He enjoyed fast cars, long drives (in the car and on the golf course), and social gatherings. Most of all, he took pride and pleasure in his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, a great friend, and an inspiration to others during his long illness. Survivors include his wife, JoMarie Montalbano of Rockford, daughters Theresa (Philip) Owen of Rockford and Marie Montalbano of Chicago, grandson, Anthony Owen of Rockford, sister Marie (Tom) Slattery of Champaign, and step-sister Annette Attardo of Rockford. He also had several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his parents and step brother-in-law, Sam Attardo. The family would like to thank the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice, Interim Health Services, DaVita Churchview Dialysis, Rockford Health Systems, and U. W. Hospital in Madison, WI. A special thanks to our family and friends for their support during his long illness. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 in St. Rita Church with Rev.Msgr. Gerald P. Kobbeman and Rev. William R. Wentink con-celebrating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Visitation also from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Memorials can be sent to the family for designation at a later date.
