Anthony J. Mazzola, 85, Loves Park, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 in his home. Born in Rockford, on March 7, 1927, son of John and Mary Paravala Mazzola. Graduated from West High School. Married Joan F. Mammenga in the Church By The Side Of The Road in Rockton on November 26, 1988. Retired from Borg Warner in 1988 following 30 years of employment. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the Rockford YMCA. Tony was an avid Chicago Bears, Bulls and Cubs fan. He loved to fish and bowl and was an accomplished violinist who had previously played with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. He was a loyal patron at Lino'¢s, his very favorite restaurant. Tony had been part of the "Fabulous Five" Poker group for many years and was a good friend to all.Survivors include his wife, Joan; son, David (Kathy) Mazzola, Greensboro, NC; daughter, Denise (John) Cornett, Virginia Beach, VA; stepdaughter, Cynthia Moffitt, Loves Park; sister, Antoinette (Leno) Zandonai, Rockford; grandchildren, Morgan Cornett, Christopher, Mazzola, Shawn Mazzola, John Mazzola, Brandon Daury and Michael Daury; greatgrandchildren, Alexis Mazzola and LilyAnne Daury; brotherinlaw, Sam Marsala; sisterinlaw, Barbara (Robert) Daley and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and sister, Marie Marsala. The Mazzola family would like to thank the staffs of Northern Illinois Hospice & Grief Center and P.A. Peterson for the loving care that was given to Tony.A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation 6:308:30 p.m. on Friday with a Rosary to be recited at 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
