Anthony (Tony) Castrogiovanni died July 17, 2010 at his home in the presence of his loving family in Rockford.nbsp; He was born August 26, 1920, the oldest son of Joseph and Rosenbsp; (Buscemi) Castrogiovanni.nbsp; From their beginning at the Sanitary Meat Market on South Main Street, Tony, his father, uncle and three brothers built Hilander Foods into a regional institution that they operated for nearly 80 years. Tony took a leave of absence from the business during World War II to serve in the Coast Guard.nbsp; On his return, he married Fran Dodaro and with their 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren they celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary on June 17, 2010.nbsp; While family and work were his top priorities, he found time to earn his pilots license, and on Sunday mornings, could be seen at the controls of a Cessna 172.nbsp; He traveled most to his beloved Italy and read extensively.nbsp; He could complete the best history lesson with a keen observation captured in an appropriate quote.nbsp; He was a gracious, generous host who was always happy to pick up the tab for dinner.nbsp; He would respond to a thank you with thank the Good Lord.nbsp; Today, his family and friends thank the Lord for Tony Castrogiovanni.nbsp;
He is survived by his wife, Frances (Dodaro) Castrogiovanni; daughters, Roz Hill, Carla Cox (John) and Fran Knutson (Jim grandchildren Tony (Rebecca) Hill, Jeff (Jennifer) Hill, Carrie Cox, Chris Cox, Marifran (Greg) Georgis and Julie Knutson (Tyler) Rudick; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, John (June) Castrogiovanni and Joe (Sharyn) Castrogiovanni; sister-in-law, Mary Castrogiovanni; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.nbsp; He was predeceased by his parents, son-in-law, Stephen Hill and brother, Al Castrogiovanni.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. David E. Beauvais at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4400 Highcrest Road on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11 a.m.nbsp; Burial in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery.nbsp; Visitation from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
