Annette F. Attardo

Annette F. Attardo, 81, nurse, wife, mother and nana, passed away on April 14, 2020. Born February 8, 1939 in Rockford, Illinois daughter to Leonard and Anne (Domino) Ginestra. A 1956 graduate of Bishop Muldoon High School she went on to graduate from St. Charles Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 to become a Registered Nurse. In the process of becoming a RN she started work at Rockford Memorial Hospital from 1959 until 1971. She became the first head nurse of Rockford Memorial’s Coronary Care Unit and was also head nurse for their Intensive Care Unit. She taught CPR for American Heart Association for numerous years as well. In 1973 she went on to work for the Rockford Clinic LTD in the oncology department until 1993. She was a hard working woman and strong in her faith. She started going to St. Bernadette Catholic Church in 1958 until 1973. From there she attended Holy Family Catholic Church until she moved to Arizona in 1993 at which time she attended St. Andrew Catholic Community Church until 2003 when she moved back to Rockford and went back to attending Holy Family. There never was there a time she wasn’t a part of a Catholic parish. She was a past president of National Catholic Society of Foresters and she also was a part of the Ingersoll Ladies 18 Hole Golf Group and Ahwatukee Ladies 18 Hole Golf Group of Arizona. She will be survived by those who loved her most, her daughter Anne Hayes and granddaughter Zofia Hayes; her step sister Marie (Tom) Slattery and sister-in-law Jo Marie Montalbano; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 30 years, Sam Attardo; her son-in-law Chris Hayes; her parents and step-mother, Nancy Montalbano Ginestra; brother, Anthony Montalbano; sisters-in-law, Donna Attardo and Marion DiGiovanni and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

At the time of Annette’s death, private services were held due to Covid restrictions. A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will now be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17,2021 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev.Phillip Kaim officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association. Send condolences and share memories at www.fitzgeraldfh.
