Andrew J. “Andy” Tryggestad, 70, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018. He was born April 18, 1948, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of Leyton and Mary (Stilwell) Tryggestad. He was a graduate of Guilford High School class of 1966. He went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Guadalcanal (LPH-7), during the Vietnam War. Andy became a chef at the Western Wisconsin Technical Institute. He was famous for his beef stroganoff and his “buzzard soup”. Andy was a generous man who would help anyone. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1207 and the VFW Post 9759, Loves Park. Andy enjoyed spending time with his youngest nephew, Max. Andy will be forever remembered as a loving brother, uncle, great uncle and friend.
Survived by his brother, Lynn (Jean) Tryggestad; sister, Marla (Gary) Cottrell; 14 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Jill Tryggestad. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Irvin, Kerry, Lon and Aaron Tryggestad.
Memorial Service will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel.
