Andrew "Andy" Joseph Doyle

September 12, 1950 — July 20, 2024

Frisco

Andrew “Andy” Joseph Doyle, 74, of Frisco, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024, surrounded by his family following a complicated hospitalization. Andy was born on July 12, 1950 in Rockford, Illinois to Robert and Marilyn Doyle who preceded him in death.

He leaves his wife of 39 years, Karen (Mills) Doyle and his 2 children, Kristi (Chance) Wimberly and Sarah Doyle. He was called “Pop Pop” by 2 of his favorite people, his grandchildren, Ashlyn and Paxton Wimberly. He is survived by his siblings Katherine Lackey, Susan (Paul) Nickel, Timothy (Julie) Doyle, David (Vicki) Doyle, Ann (George) Licari, brother-in-law Keith (Karen) Mills, as well as 15 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews. Andy’s family described him as funny, loyal, amazing, family oriented, loving, welcoming, dedicated, generous, proud, positive, thoughtful, kind, caring, a fighter, uplifting, entertaining, witty and a great big brother.

Andy, also known as AJ, Joe or “Brother”, grew up in Rockford, attending Boylan Catholic High School and Hillsdale College in Michigan. He joined the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and majored in business. He was a proud Hillsdale alumnus often seen representing the Chargers in his navy and white attire.

After college, Andy returned to Rockford where he worked for American Bank and owned Portage Products, a company that built and sold trailers. In 1980, he took a 4-month motor home trip across the US and landed in Arlington, Texas where he would establish his residence.

Andy followed in his father’s footsteps and began a successful career in real estate. He was a true salesman and had a very clever sales process. He moved from buying and selling homes, to protecting them as he entered the home security industry where he would spend the remainder of his career. He won numerous awards for his individual performance before advancing to management where his teams and branches continued to be recognized. He was able to motivate and inspire his employees and was always willing to roll up his sleeves and do the hard work. He took pride in his work as well as the relationships he developed along the way. In 2014, Andy and Karen built a home in Frisco, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

When he wasn’t working, Andy loved spending time with his family and friends, camping, organizing fishing trips, grilling, working on home renovations or hosting massive parties, like his annual fish fry. As he grew older and gained the title “Pop Pop”, his free time was spent cheering on his grandchildren at their cheerleading events, recitals, concerts, baseball and basketball games. He was a crowd favorite as his pockets were always stuffed with candy and earned the nickname “Candy Man”. He enjoyed Sunday dinners, reading the newspaper, sitting on the patio drinking a gin martini, playing Chinese checkers or cribbage, driving around in his golf cart, performing magic tricks, telling riddles, watching golf and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.
