Ami Nicosia

Ami Nicosia passed away peacefully on December 7, 2021 in Rockford, IL. After being admitted to the hospital for congestive heart failure complications. While hospitalized Ami contracted Covid-19, where she battled for life 3 plus weeks. This was the only Holiday (Thanksgiving) Ami didn’t get to spend with her family.
Born to Rosario and Antoinette (Cuppini) Nicosia on April 1, 1951 in Rockford, IL. She was dubbed an April fool’s baby.
Ami attended St. Anthony Catholic School till 8th grade and finished High School at Bishop Muldoon all girls Catholic High School. During her youth she was the big sister, always looking out for her three brothers, and helping her mother.
Ami worked at her family’s pizzeria, then eventually started a career at At&t. Ami enjoyed swimming, playing cards, listening to music, praying, planning and cooking for her family on Sundays, holidays and birthdays. Her favorite meal to cook was homemade sugo and meatballs and also arancini. Ami was the glue that held her family together.
Ami was always a Catholic but became more devoted to her Catholic faith through learning of St. Philomena, who brought her closer to Christ and the church. She had a strong influence in her family reconverting to the church also. Ami was the coordinator of the traveling Pilgrim Virgin statue of Rockford that traveled weekly from home to home, where the rosary and other prayers would be said. Ami organized many Fatima Nights at many different parishes throughout the years in Rockford. She was known as “The Fatima Lady”.
Ami was a very selfless person who would put others above herself, always forgiving, she was a great mother, friend, sister, aunt, and soul.
Ami will be missed but never forgotten as she would always say “never say goodbye” but so long. She knew and hoped we will all be reunited in Heaven.
She is survived by son, Nicolas Land (Mindy), Brother, Rosario Nicosia, niece, Mandy Nicosia (Bj), dog, Lucy, Aunt Sara and Frank Martarana.
Predeceased by her parents, Rosario and Antoinette (Cuppini) Nicosia; brothers, Alan Nicosia and Joe Nicosia.
In lieu of flowers, please have masses said in memory of Ami and her family, preferably Gregorian if you could. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 South Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
