.Alyce Ann Zimmerman, 95, Rockford, joined her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 7, 2019. She was born August 30, 1924, in Rockford, the daughter of Vincent and Mary (Cermak) Pyzynski. Alyce married William “Bill” Zimmerman in Rockford on September 30, 1944 while he was on a one month leave during WWII, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before Bill entered into eternal rest on January 18, 2009.
Alyce had a heart of service her entire life. In the early days of her marriage, she worked as a secretary at Barnes Drill Co, and later, at Zimmerman Electric Co. She was a loving mother while raising five children, and then later, welcomed and raised two of her granddaughters at her home in Rockford. She loved nature, and for years, would plant and nurture beautiful flowers and plants all throughout the house and garden.
Alyce and Bill were avid travelers where they had many treasured memories of trips throughout the US, and to Europe and South America. She loved to play golf and tennis. She had a sharp wit and a great laugh. She was well spoken, and kind and generous in her words.
Alyce was prayerful and a regular participant at Holy Mass. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was active in Home and School Association, Eucharistic minister, and many fund raising and service actions. Above all, Alyce loved her family more than anything and always placed the lives of her husband, her children and grandchildren above her own. She will be sorely missed by all of us.
Survived by her children, Joan-Marie Zimmerman of New York, NY and Rockford, Mark (Linda) Zimmerman of Rockford, John Zimmerman of Rockford, and Karl (Bridget) Zimmerman of St. Louis, MO; her grandchildren, Stacie Zimmerman, Julie (Matt) Warren, Stephen, Paula, Amy, and Mark Jacob Zimmerman; her great-grandchildren, Jackson and Brodie; many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Kay Bateman, an infant granddaughter, Amanda, her siblings, Joseph Pyzynski, Nellie Johnson, Walter and John Pyzynski, and an infant brother, Stanley Pyzynski.
