Alicia Valdez

Alicia Valdez, 80, of Rockford, passed away Monday, January 09, 2017 at Amberwood Care Center. Born February 24, 1936 in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico, the daughter of Jose Maria & Micaela (Cerna) de la Rosa. Alicia married Guadalupe Valdez in Mexico on May 27, 1962, they moved to Rockford the following month. She worked at JC Penney for 31 years. Last working at the Machesney Park Mall location in the men’s suits, retiring in 1998. She loved to go out to eat, especially breakfast and to travel.
She is survived by loving husband Guadalupe, son Ernesto (Scott) Valdes; siblings Jose Guadalupe de la Rosa, Miguel de la Rosa, Maria Guadalupe Ruiz and Maria de los Angeles Lira. Predeceased by daughter Maria Alicia Valdes; siblings Arturo de la Rosa, Graciela Acosta, Andres de la Rosa, Raul de la Rosa, and Jose Maria de la Rosa.

Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 pm with a rosary recited at 5 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103, and from 10 a.m. to time of service at the church Saturday. In lieu of flowers memorials to Amberwood Care Center.
