Alfred T. Paulsen Alfred T. Paulsen, 80, of Rockford, formerly of New Jersey, was called to be with the Lord on November 30, 2007 at P.A. Petersen Center for Health. Alfred was born November 22, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Alfred A. and Mary Ellen (ODwyer) Paulsen. He met Janyce C. Heuer in New Jersey and married her on September 28, 1957. Alfred had served in the Merchant Marines and the Army Air Corps. He received his Bachelors Degree from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and his Masters Degree in Spanish from Middlebury College School of Foreign Language in Vermont. He taught foreign languages in the New Jersey public school system for 36 years and retired in 1990 from Whippany Park High School as Chairman of the Foreign Language Department. He was a Commanding Officer of the Navy League Sea Cadets in Somerset County, New Jersey, was involved in several musical ensembles throughout his life both as a singer and an instrumentalist and was a member of St. Mary Oratory. Alfred is survived by his wife, Janyce; his son, Christopher (Lori) Paulsen; his three daughters, Susan Paulsen, Jill (Steven) Andrews and Mary (David) Friedel; his grandchildren, Christopher, Noah, Rachel, Peter, Sarah, Oliver and Linus; his sister, Margaret (Joe) Fallon and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and his son Mark Paulsen. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 10 am at St. Mary Oratory, 517 Elm Street, Rockford with Rev. Brian A. T. Bovee as celebrant. Burial will be private. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 4 pm 7 pm, with a recitation of the rosary at 6:30 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary Oratory. Family and friends may extend condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfuneralhome.com.
