Albert Logli, 93, a lifelong resident of Rockford, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Born October 30, 1916, son of Joseph and Irene (Cucchi) Logli. Graduated from Rockford Central High School, class of 1935, Albert went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, class of 1940. On April 26, 1942, he married his loving wife, Margaret Salamone at St. Peter Catholic Church. He was the founder and president of Special Machine Company in Rockford from 1956 until his retirement in 1973. Member of St. Peter Catholic Church since 1942, member of the University Club, U of I Alumni Association, past member of Rockford Country Club, a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, and supporter of the fighting Illini. His family referred to him as a walking encyclopedia. He could quote at length various poems and readings that he had committed to memory. A strong and loving presence, he was a rock, the solid foundation upon which his family was built. His death leaves a void for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and he will be missed by all. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his Cathedral of St. Peter 6:30 A.M. Mass buddies, The University Club Saturday Lunchers, and nephew Karl Canavese who checked in daily. Survivors include his daughters, Irene (John) Gile, Martha Martin both of Rockford; Jane (Dr. Stephen) Puerini of Cranston, RI.; son, Paul (Jody) Logli of Rockford; grandchildren, Annie (Scott) Miller, Brian (Mary) Gile, Christina (Bryan) Powell, Daniel (Dawn) Gile, Elaina (Robert) Yenchek, Faith Gile, Gianna Puerini , Stephen (Kaja) Puerini, Damian (Shannon) Puerini, Peter, Benjamin and Jacob Logli, Meg (Jerry) Kinney, Kate and Paul Martin; great grandchildren, Mark , John, Tom and Dan Miller; Tim, Bridget, Eli, Meg , Lydia and Caitlin Gile; Emma, Maddie and Oliver Powell, Molly Kinney and Andrew Yenchek and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 2001, brothers, Angelo and John Logli and sisters, Mary Druger and Nellie Wilson. Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the Cathedral of St. Peter, with the Most Rev. Thomas G. Doran, bishop of Rockford, officiating and Rev. Kenneth Wasilewski concelebrating. Burial will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 7 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation continues on Saturday, in the funeral home from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials to: The Margaret M. Logli School Endowment at St. Peter Cathedral or to a charity of ones choice.
