ALBERT EDWARD SKRZENTA, 76, Rockford, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in Swedish American Hospital. Born August 26, 1930 in Chicago, son of Albert and Helen Ozga Skrzenta Married Joella Pamela Wierer on November 22, 1957. Their daughter, Rhonda Theresa was born in 1964. Al served as a SFC in the Korean War and was a marksman and driver for the USO. He lived in Palos Hills, IL. until 1976 when he moved to Rockford. He worked as a machinist and in quality control for 30 years with Rockwell International, Goss Division. After becoming bored with retirement, Al returned to work in quality control with Publishers Equipment Company. Al was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with his good friends, Mike Lieurance and Art Simek. He was also a devoted Nascar fan as well as a fan of Dale Earnhart, Tony Stewart and the Chicago Bears. He won numerous bowling awards over the years, was a member of the Comets baseball team and was an accomplished cook. Al enjoyed history and sharing special time with his grandson, Matthew. Al will be missed by his daughter, Rhonda (Tim) Heflin; grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary and Kaitlyn and numerous family members and friends. Predeceased by his parents, his wife, Joella and his brother, Thaddeus Skrzenta. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2007 in St. Rita Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald P. Kobbeman officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Friday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
