Albert Edward Kunze, 75, of Rockford, IL passed away Wednesday March 16, 2016 in Swedish American Hospital. He was born February 26, 1941 in Chicago, the son of Heinrich and Frances Kunze. Albert served in the US Army. He married Rosanne Swan on February 24, 1967 in Rockford. Al was a hard-working man who did not covet possessions. His biggest passion was the business that he owned and ran for 50 years, Johnstone Supply of Rockford. The operation has branches in Rockford and Madison, WI. Al’s legendary work ethic and uncanny ability of attracting and, at times, entertaining customers created a winning combination. He sought to help others grow in the Johnstone co-operative model and looked at many of his co-owners, corporate staff and his own employees as family. One of his famous pieces of advice when asked for his five year business plan was “sell more stuff”. That was Al - simple, direct, and no nonsense. You always knew exactly where you stood with Al Kunze. Rosanne was his beloved corporate secretary for all of those 50 years. Later in life, Al enjoyed some new passions such as being outdoors, gardening, fishing, bird watching and exercising. Al also enjoyed seeing his grandchildren growing up and attending their events. Al was a generous person, donating to many charitable causes on a regular basis.
Survivors include his wife Rosanne, son Dan (Laura) Kunze of Madison, daughter Dawn Brown of Aurora, CO, grandchildren Isabelle and Greta Kunze and Andrew Brown. Predeceased by his parents.
