Alan R. Hoffman, 61, of South Beloit, died March 22, 2009, in his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. Born June 21, 1947 in Rockford, son of Raymond and Dorothy (Kennedy) Hoffman. Married Connie Schabacker April 3, 1971 in Lindenwood. He served in the US Army stationed in Germany and then transferred into Vietnam and served from 1966-1968. He was employed as a machinist at W.F. and John F. Barnes and Ingersoll Milling Machine Company for 35 years. He was an avid fisherman and he loved his summer get away up north. He also loved gardening and spending time with his granddaughter Lexie. He is survived by his wife, Connie; daughter, Lori (Scott) Zegunis; and granddaughter Alexandria Lexie all of South Beloit; brothers, Ronald (Anne) Hoffman, Eden Prairie, MN, Gary (Esperanza) Hoffman, Newton, NC, brothers-in-law, Alan (Sharon) Schabacker of Byron; Terry Schabacker of Palm Springs, CA; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Bill) Brewer of Byron; Vicki (Dan) Davis of Roscoe and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, son, Steven, half brother, Robert Pat Hoffman and in-laws Paul and Margaret Schabacker. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care that Al received from the staff of VNA Hospice and a very special thanks to Mary and Beverly. Funeral service Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 7404 Elevator Rd. Roscoe, with Rev. John Heins officiating. Visitation Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. and will continue on Thursday in the church until time of service.
